Counselling involves the experience of being heard and understood. It also can shed clarity - uncovering patterns or suggesting links to other areas of our lives. It can also help identify our buried potential allowing hidden parts of ourselves to develop and thrive. In counselling you may want to explore patterns of relating because you feel in a cycle of repetitive behaviour. You may be feeling at sea or be recovering from traumatic incidents in the past. I am ready to explore with you any of these things including how to look at these patterns of behaviour to promote beneficial change.
I believe we all have the capacity for personal growth and can benefit from accessing the part of ourselves that can be creative and wise. In a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment we can explore how to develop your potential and alleviate distress.
I work from an integrative background which means I can work by looking at patterns from the past as well as in the present through offering ways to explore and regulate emotions including anxiety and anger. I can also work in a more solution-focused way, if appropriate looking at goals or how to make simple changes.
In addition to using more traditional talking therapy I have creative materials available which can also be helpful for young people and children and am happy to explore images, dreams, metaphor and play. My recovery from a life-threatening illness a number of years ago has enabled me to be able and willing to accompany others who are struggling with questions of life and death.
